The dialectal dictionary of the ancient city of Tlemcen is characterized by unique phonetic and lexical features, and this uniqueness reaches its fullest extent through expressive patterns in its various forms, such as a panoramic Picture of the reality of the Tlemcen metropolis. This paper will address one of the expressive patterns that dive deep into the Tlemcen culture, namely the popular proverbs, through an interpretive study that tries to reveal the phonetic phenomena and semantic units in addition to measuring the areas of difference and convergence between proverbs in each region of Tlemcen.

The Quest for (Re) writing Her/story: Voicing the Unheard in Toni Morrison’s Beloved and A Mercy and Assia Djebar’s Fantasia, An Algerian Cavalcade and So Vast the Prison
    (2025) Yousra Terbeche; KAID Nassima
Women writers have long sought to reintroduce silenced women and their experiences to history and literature. This thesis, then, intends to link these women to history and literature by examining literary texts written by postcolonial women writers Assia Djebar and Toni Morrison, specifically Fantasia, An Algerian Cavalcade, So Vast the Prison, Beloved and A Mercy. Djebar and Morrison, regardless of their different socio-cultural backgrounds, Algerian and African American, respectively, showcase an undeniable affinity by writing subaltern women who have been subjected to the cruelty of patriarchy, (post)colonialism and slavery. They attempt to present women and their histories with a final aim to challenge literary conventions and exclusionary history. Therefore, this thesis undertakes a thematic comparative analysis guided by a postcolonial feminist theoretical framework that takes intersectional theory and subaltern historiography as its main focus when exploring Algerian and African American women's experiences within their respective histories and literatures. We also address the authors’ roles by examining the feminine quality of their writings. This study argues that although women are written off history, they still manage to preserve it within their bodies, confirming thus a resistance to their manifold oppressions, and providing women writers with the possibility to unearth their buried truths and voices, write and rewrite them into a revised version of history and literature called her/story. This thesis revealed that women's intersectionality has led to their manifold oppression and subalternity within literature and history. Nonetheless, we assert that women writers contend this by crafting a her/story that represents the several positions subaltern women occupy, mainly oppressed and agent positions. Djebar and Morrison, then, emerge as revisionists who write subaltern women’s individual and collective experiences and her/stories in the feminine.

    (2025) KHERBOUCHE Rima; MERBOUH Hadjer
This thesis explores the spatio-sociolinguistic dynamics in the districts of Dahlias and Boudghen in Tlemcen, highlighting the existing linguistic nuances between these areas and the contribution of metalinguistic discourses to the hierarchy of urban spaces. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the study demonstrates how social representations and linguistic practices influence the categorization of places, contributing to a form of spatio-sociolinguistic discrimination that shapes the perception and valuation of neighborhoods. By emphasizing the role of language in the structuring of social and territorial identities, this research enriches urban sociolinguistics and opens avenues for future research on issues of spatial categorization and linguistic inequalities in a globalized context.

The Image of the Colonizer and Colonized in Albert Camus’ The Plague and Kateb Yacine’s Nedjma
    (2025) HIMRI Sarra; GRAZIB Mohamed
The (re)presentation of the colonizer and colonized becomes the most controversial post-colonial issue, for it catches the attention of hosts of modern critics and writers due to its importance. Yet, the unfair representation of the colonized by writers during colonial era causes a severe tension in the relationship between the colonizer and colonized, especially on the part of the colonized whose image has been completely distorted by some colonial stories, and this is what paves the way to the emergence of post-colonial era, which tends to challenge and revise colonial stories by offering the chance to the colonized to speak and re-narrate the story from his own point of view. The present work tends to unveil the real truth as far as the image of the colonizer and colonized is concerned, and post-colonial approach suits this kind of research. In doing so, the works of both authors; Kateb Yacine’s Nedjma and Albert Camus’ The Plague are quite important because the first one is written by an Algerian colonized writer and the other by a French colonizer are important because each writer seeks to present the real truth about the colonizer and colonized through different standing- point. This thesis, then, tends to explore the image of the colonizer and colonized as an attempt to figure out which story holds the seeds of truth; the story told by the colonizer or the one recounted by the colonized. This work attempts to re-examine colonial narratives and restore all the missing pieces of (hi) story which are blurred by the colonizer. It is also an opportunity to debunk the grotesque deeds of the colonizer and retrieve the dignity of the colonized.

Shaping Dystopian Visions in Orwell’s 1984 and Laredj’s 2084: The Tale of the Last Arab
    (2025) SERIR, Lina; BOUHASSOUN, Azzeddine
Speculative fiction has appeared deliberately. Its execution oscillates between fantasy, science fiction, or utopia/dystopia dyads, but its influence is hitherto salutary partly because it expands the horizons of culture, it is at the helm of traveling by probable roads and constantly worries itself about the future, partly also because it has the power to carry a literary work to universality with regards to the laws and lore of identity and aesthetics. The question organizing this project concerns the extent to which Orwell and Laredj were derivative from authors, works of literature, history, politics, and media to amplify the underrepresented voices in a totalitarian discourse. Thus, this research attempts to examine two pieces of literature that are more concerned with the future than any other. Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Laredj’s 2084: The Tale of the Last Arab are analyzed and compared to highlight not only similarities and differences but also to regard the sci-fi genre from another angle that stands at the periphery in the presence of Western production. It finds that the powerful imagery of Orwell’s text still impacts literature that is concerned with the vision of the future. However, the comparison also reveals that Orwell and Laredj were not concerned with expressing adventures and exaggeration for entertainment as much as chronicling the future in a bitter disclosure to warn from totalitarianism and ideological domination. This research also invites readers and researchers to act and react to the turn of comparatists towards Cultural Studies, Woman’s Studies, Semiotics, Nationalism, and Postcolonial theory to deconstruct the Western hierarchy in comparative literature.

This descriptive and analytical study seeks to clarify the standards of the text, in its main axes, from casting, weaving and intertextuality in the precious durr in the interpretation of the book shown to Sheikh Al-Tawati bin Al-Tawati Al-Aghouati Al-Jazairi. Which concluded that there are those textual criteria that the interpreter begs to clarify the meanings of the Qur'anic verses, and to clarify the intended connotations. And that their totality is no different from what Western studies have developed to prove the textuality of the text.

Through this study, we investigated the topic of poetics in Arabic literature, and we found that it did not settle on a fixed and specific topic. This was the problem that led us to search and explore it among Algerian creators and critics, in the hope of identifying its most prominent stations, issues, types and determinants in a way that removes confusion about it, and clarifies the vision for the recipient by combining and reconciling the poetics in our Arab heritage, and the poetics in our modern Algerian criticism, where we stood at a group of Algerian critics, led by the critics (Bashir Taouririt and Hussein Khomri). What was stated in the studies and research of the critic “Bashir Taouririt” regarding the critical experience on the concepts of poetics is a presentation of all previous experiences and textual theories, and a rooting of the features of poetics in the Arab and Western studies. For him, poetics lies in the horizons of writing that establish the shaking of the familiar and ordinary into the strange and different, all the way to the unknown, the anonymous, the invisible, and what is beyond the tangible, as we find him recognizing all previous critical concepts by presenting the concepts, starting points, origins, and features, following Western critics in their proposals about the concept of poetics, and the Arab critic “Adonis” in his visionary view of this concept. Critic Hussein Khomri tries to create a new concept from the poetics of literature to the poetics of criticism with a different vision and new tools, by questioning the poetic phenomenon in its presence and absence, its appearance and denial, its ferocity and tension, its revelations and connotations, its harmony and difference. For him, poetry is creation and creativity that invents all ways to establish an experimental vision. It is infinite as a conscious, cultural process of constant research and engagement in means and procedures, and discovery in texts, discourses, and cognitive fields.

This study aims to shed light on a stylistic phenomenon that has long occupied the interest of Arab and Orientalist stylistic and rhetorical researchers, which is the stylistic shift. This phenomenon is considered a feature of poetic language, considering the shift as a break from the usual linguistic system, and a departure from the norm in the use of vocabulary, structures, and graphic styles. It increases the creation of new effects that break the reader’s expectations and arouse his emotion and surprise. Our study required addressing the poetics of displacement in the contemporary Algerian short story, so we took the short story collection (A Moment for the Stealing of Love) by Fadila Al-Farouq as a model for study, due to the crowding and emergence of images and manifestations of this stylistic deviation clearly and clearly in the narrative text. By using the analytical stylistic approach, we were able to deduce the areas of syntactic and semantic shifts in the collection of short stories, as well as identify the most important artistic features and aesthetic value of the shift in the various stories contained in the text. We were also able, through this research, to discover the new literary experience of the writer through her use of poetic language full of suggestions and imagination. All of this enriched the narrative text and created vibrant literary texts, leaving depth and artistic impact on the recipient.

The Algerian literary scene has known a remarkable diversity in its literary genres. The crises that have befallen Algerian society for many years have made every Algerian writer aspire to express his lived reality using the literary genre that suits him. But if this writer decided to express his reality by relying on the autobiographical genre, is it reasonable that Does he rely on imagination in conveying the reality of his life, the life of his community, or will he speak realistically, conveying the events he lived through as they are, without addition or subtraction? This is what we will try to answer through our study of the biography of Mutafa Fasi Symphony of Agony.

The contemporary Algerian feminist novel expressed aesthetic awareness by arousing the reader, invading his mind, fascinated him, and seducing him to be drawn into its world. It also translated this world and delved into its details with modern narrative techniques, and broke the system of constants and routine axioms that we are familiar with in some classic novels through interrelation. The text, intensifying the narrative and fragmenting the temporal and spatial structure of anticipations and retrievals, deletions and revelations that fragment the relationship of the signifier with the signified, relying on new techniques such as plastic maneuvering and dialogic language to emerge into the world of spectacle and theatre.
