Résumé
This research in language sciences examines the impact of Instagram and TikTok posts
on the construction and dissemination of social stereotypes among young Algerians.
Through a qualitative and multimodal analysis of a corpus of 50 popular posts (25
Instagram Reels and 25 TikTok videos), mainly produced by creators from Oran, the
study highlights how digital content perpetuates gendered representations, notably
femininity centered on aesthetics, masculinity based on strength, and a heteronormative
model of the couple.
Résumé
The integration of short texts, performative hashtags, and visual elements, combined
with algorithmic virality mechanisms, contributes to stabilizing and amplifying these
stereotypes within the local digital sphere. Furthermore, linguistic hybridity (Darija–
French–English) and specific cultural references reinforce the urban and contemporary
digital identity of young users.
This study emphasizes the importance of media education in fostering critical awareness
of such representations, in order to prevent their passive acceptance and to promote a
better understanding of discursive dynamics in the digital age."
