Abstract

The subject of our study was the psychological disorders associated whith the elderly within the nursing home death anxiety as a model. The study aimed to determine whether the elderly suffer from death anxiety within the nursing home, and to identify the difference in the degree of death anxiety between elderly individuals who maintain contact with their families and those who are disconnected from them, and whether there is difference in the degree of death anxiety between females and males. Accordingly, we conducted a clinical syudy on four cases (2 males and 2 females) aged between (70 - 87) years, residing in a nursing home in the state of Ain Temouchent. We used the clinical method, relying on case studies, and we also used scientific research methods, namely the clinical interview, clinical observation, and Donald Templar’s death anxiety scale. The current study reached the following results : - The elderly within the nursing home suffer from death anxiety, with the levels of this feeling varying between moderate and high among the four studied cases - A difference was found in the level of death anxiety among the elderly based on their level of contact with their families.The level of death anxiety was moderate in the two cases who were connected to their families, while the level of death anxiety was high in the two cases who were disconnected from their families. - There is a difference in the degree of death anxiety between females and males. The two female cases were found to be less anxious, at a moderate level, while the two male cases recorded high level. The results were discussed within the theoretical background of the research topic and previous studies on the subject.
