Résumé
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder
on psychological resilience in diabetic patients who have undergone amputation. The
study sample consisted of a single 59-year-old female patient, a widow who had
undergone lower limb amputation (leg) due to diabetes and was admitted to Ahmed
Madghari Hospital – Ain Temouchent. We employed a clinical approach using
clinical interviews and clinical observation, as well as the Davidson Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder Scale and the Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS)
We concluded that the patient was suffering from psychological distress resulting
from the trauma of amputation. The outcome was the emergence of depressive
disorder, as the amputation affected her psychological resilience and left her with
post-traumatic symptoms of avoidance, re-experiencing and arousal, as well as a
range of behavioural, physical, cognitive and emotional symptoms due to the extent
of (physical disability). She also suffers from feelings of inadequacy and grief
associated with the loss, which has led to a failure to adapt to her new reality
characterised by reduced physical abilities, resulting in a diminished capacity to
perform daily functions and activities.
