Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate and determine the nature of the relationship between thinking styles and problem- solving among a sample of first-year pupils at « Ben dalla Ali » secondary school in Ain Temouchent. To achieve the study ‘s objectives , a descriptive correlational approach was adopted. The study employed two main instruments : the Thinking styles inventory by Sternberg and Wagner(2019), modified from Aissaoui kafia (2019), And the problem- solving inventory by Heppner and Petersen (1998) which was adapted by Ferhat ben Nasser(2022) on the Algerian environment. The instruments were administered to an iccidentally selected sample of 60 students(19 males and 41 females), from both scientific and literary streams. After conducting statistical analyses, the study arrived at the following findings. - No statistically significant relationship was found between thinking styles and problem- solving among secondary school pupils - no statistically significant differences were observed in thinking styles based on gender - No statistically significant differences were observed in thinking styles based on academic stream(scientific vs. Literary). - The level of problem-solving among the students is average To conclude, the results were discussed in light of previous research and theoretical frameworks, and several recommendations were proposed accordingly.
