Abstract
The study aimed to know the level of social cognition among healthy elderly
people and elderly people with degenerative disease and the difference between
them in terms of social cognition. To achieve these goals, we followed the
clinical approach based on a case study, where a purposive sample was selected
that included four cases from the nursing home in Ain Temouchent: 1 female
and 1 male suffering from degenerative diseases (multiple sclerosis and
Alzheimer’s, respectively) and 1 healthy female and male who do not suffer
from degenerative diseases. The social perception scale (Rana Rifaat Shawkat,
2013) was applied. The following results were reached: - The elderly person’s level of social awareness is healthy, between average and
close to good. - The level of social awareness of the elderly person with a weak degenerative
disease. - There is a difference in social cognition between the healthy elderly person
and the elderly person with degenerative disease.
