Résumé
This work focuses on the synthesis of a biocomposite based on sodium alginate with recycled
and treated glass powder, as well as the evaluation of its efficiency towards Cu2+ ions from
aqueous solutions. Waste glass powder was firstly treated with NaOH/EDTA in order to
improve its surface properties. The optimal treatment conditions were determined using the
(RSM) based on the (CCD), by investigating the effects of several parameters on mass loss,
complexation capacity and sedimentation volume. The optimized conditions were found to be
a NaOH concentration of 4.80 mol·L−1, a treatment time of 2 h 55 min, a temperature of 80 °C
and an EDTA/inorganic charge ratio of 2.17% (w/w).
The biocomposite was then prepared through ionic crosslinking of sodium alginate with
calcium chloride (CaCl2). FTIR spectroscopy confirmed both the chemical modification of the
glass powder and its successful incorporation into the polymer matrix. The adsorption
performance of the biocomposite was evaluated using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. The
results demonstrated a high removal efficiency for Cu2+ ions, reaching 95.09%.
The kinetic and adsorption isotherm studies confirmed the effectiveness of the developed
biocomposite, with the experimental data showing a better fit to the pseudo-second-order
(PSO) kinetic model and the Freundlich isotherm model.
