The researchdemonstratesthat code-switching, borrowing, linguistichybridity, and
diglossiaconstitute essential processes for producingcomiceffectsbased on
linguisticcontrast, exaggeration, and cultural representations. Thesemultilingual practices
alsofunction as discursive and identity-relatedtoolsthatstrengthen the connectionbetween
the comedian and his audience.
Finally, the studyrevealsthat the sociolinguisticstereotypesused in the sketch promote a
form of collective self-mockery and emphasize the importance of multilingualism in new
forms of humordisseminatedthrough social media.
