Abstract
The traditional way of teaching/learning a foreign language has shown some
limitations. A shift appears to be needed. The outside context offers opportunities of gathering
knowledge in a natural, real life situations: the opposition between the sheltered setting of the
classroom and the outside world has no ground anymore. Thus , this work based on action
research examined whether or not the EFL learners are studying English outside the class,
showing the importance and benefits of outdoor learning on the students. Following the world
trend, English language is taught at Djillali Liabes University of Sidi Bel Abbes. Yet, it
appears recently, regarding previous studies, that the EFL students do not practice the
language effectively, proficiently, fluently and accuratly. It has been noticed also during the
data collection process that their knowledge level about the language is low. To confirm or
disconfirm this hypothesis, the researcher conducted an interview with EFL teachers, and a
questionnaire with the EFL students as well at the faculty of Letters, Languages and Arts. The
whole investigation provides by the end a number of recommendations and suggested
solutions
