Résumé
This study aimed toreveal the nature of the profound psychological suffering and the
fissures affecting the narcissistic structure and self-image of female prisoners through
projective techniques, as a result of the detention experience and acute social stigma.
To achieve this objective, the clinical method based on the case study approach was
adopted, where the study sample was purposively selected, consisting of two cases of
female inmates within the correctional facility for (Re-education and Reintegration) in
Oran.. A set of clinical investigation tools was applied for data collection and analysis,
including the semi-structured clinical interview, clinical observation, as well as the
administration of projective tools, namely the Rorschach inkblot test and the Thematic
Apperception Test (TAT). The results of the study revealed the existence of deep clinical
flaws and acute fragility in the narcissistic organization of both cases, manifested
through a shattered self-image, a decline in self-esteem and self-love, alongside the
emergence of feelings of helplessness and shame resulting from the deprivation of
liberty and social rejection. These dynamics were unconsciously translated into unique
defense mechanisms and psychopathologic structures that characterized the
psychological functioning of each individual case, thereby confirming the trauma of the
prison experience and its major impact on the woman's narcissistic framework.
