Abstract

This study examines the representations of women in the novel Embrace of Serpents by Azeddine Jlaouji, focusing on their heroic and revolutionary roles. It begins by defining key concepts such as the novel, woman, and heroism, then explores in the first chapter the portrayal of women in Arabic and Algerian literature through examples like The South Wind, The Black Woman, and A Passionate Throne, highlighting a range of images from strength to weakness, and independence to dependency. The second chapter analyzes the role of the heroic woman in Embrace of Serpents, where she appears as a warrior, adventurer, and rebel, emphasizing her connection to revolution as a liberating act and psychological struggle. The study concludes that the woman is not a marginal figure but a central actor in driving change and revolutionary consciousness.
