Abstract
This thesis focuses on the novel *L’Effacement* by Samir Toumi, a work that deeply explores the theme of identity crisis in contemporary Algerian society. Through the story of a narrator-character who gradually loses his reflection in the mirror, the novel portrays an existential malaise tied to the weight of the past, paternal authority, and the postcolonial context.
The study is structured around two main axes: the representation of a fragmented identity through first-person narration, and the analysis of narrative and stylistic techniques (such as interior monologue, disrupted temporality, narrative fragmentation, typography...) that reflect the character’s gradual erasure.
The results of the analysis confirm that the novel illustrates a psychological and social disintegration of identity. *L’Effacement* is not only the account of a personal disappearance, but also a mirror reflecting a generation that has lost its bearings.
