Abstract

The psychological experience of the addicted father . Clinical study of two cases This study aimed to explore the nature of the psychological experience of the addicted father. It was conducted on two cases selected intentionally in order to answer the following main question: What is the impact of addiction on the psychological experience of the addicted father? From this main question emerge two secondary questions: How does the type of substance consumed influence the nature of the psychological experience of the addicted father? And to what extent does the duration of addiction affect his psychological experience? In order to verify the hypotheses formulated from these questions, the clinical method based on the case study approach was adopted. Several tools were used, including clinical observation, structured and semi-structured clinical interviews, the Aron Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Carol Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale. The results of the study showed that addiction has a negative impact on the psychological experience of the addicted father. This impact also varies according to the type of substance consumed and the duration of addiction, which is reflected in the level of depression and the quality of psychological well-being of the two studied cases.
