Abstract
The study aimed to explore the contribution of the systemic desensitization technique in treating exam anxiety among students preparing for the Baccalaureate exam for the 2024/2025 academic year in the Wilaya of Ain Temouchent. The study was based on the following research problem: Does the systematic desensitization technique contribute to the treatment of exam anxiety among students preparing for the baccalaureate exam? Are there differences in the effectiveness of the systematic desensitization treatment across the dimensions of sarson exam anxiety scale (cognitive, behavioral, and physiological) for baccalaureate candidates? Does exam anxiety affect academic achievement among baccalaureate candidate?
To achieve this goal, the study adopted the clinical method using various tools, including clinical observation, clinical interviews, and Sarason’s Test Anxiety Scale. The study was conducted on two cases aged between 17 and 19 years.
The results ultimately confirmed the first and second hypotheses: the systematic desensitization technique contributes to the treatment of exam anxiety among students preparing for the Baccalaureate, and there are differences in the effectiveness of the treatment across Sarason’s exam anxiety dimensions (cognitive, behavioral, physiological). However, the third hypothesis was not clearly confirmed for the two cases, as the impact of exam anxiety on academic achievement varied.
