Résumé
This thesis analyzes the representations of marginality in the novel by Mimoun Ayer, “The
Boy Who Lived in the Wall”, exploring how the protagonist Hassan embodies the fractures
of contemporary Algeria. Through an approach combining poetic of the narrative and
sociocritique, the study demonstrates that narrative strategies such as free indirect speech
break the invisibility of the marginal to give him a human thickness. The analysis of spatial
symbolism shows that the wall is used as metaphor of an identity suspended between the
failure of urban integration and an inner exile. By understanding this drama in the tradition
of French-speaking Algerian literature, this work highlights a radical critique of institutional
violence and social contempt.
