Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the impact of investing in human competencies in the
tourism sector on its functional performance, The study variables consisted of the
independent variable of investing in human competencies and its dimensions, and the
dependent variable of functional performance and its dimensions To achieve the study
objectives, the researcher utilized a questionnaire as the main tool to measure the impact
of investing in human competencies in the tourism sector on its functional performance
through the five-star hotels Renaissance Tlemcen and Marriott Constantine, both affiliated
with the global Marriott chain. The study sample was selected, distributing 360
questionnaires to employees in the two hotels under study. Due to the researcher's inability
to retrieve all questionnaires, the study sample size reached 320 employees , To answer the
study questions and test its hypotheses, the researcher calculated the means, standard
deviations, applied simple linear regression, multiple linear regression equations,
Spearman's correlation coefficient, and performed one-way ANOVA using the statistical
program SPSS. Additionally, the researcher conducted interviews with officials as a
secondary tool to obtain desired information.
The study concluded several results, not ably that Renaissance Tlemcen and Marriott
Constantine hotels are pioneers in their field through their efforts to provide the best and
highest quality services nationally. Moreover, there was a positive moral impact between
the dimensions of investing in competencies collectively and individually on the
functional performance at Renaissance Tlemcen and Marriott Constantine hotels.
The study recommended the strategic employment of rare competencies from institutes
and higher schools of hospitality and catering, the use of modern training methods,
providing attractive salaries and rich incentives to retain human competencies and attract
talents, enhancing educational curricula that include the tourism sector, focusing on
technology and digitizing the tourism sector to establish smart tourism and keep pace with
globalization.
