Abstract
In Algeria, the French language occupies a prominent position and remains
very vibrant in all domains, alongside the Arabic language. However, one of
the most frequent challenges in teaching and learning French as a foreign
language (FLE) is speaking.
In this context, we conducted this research with students in the 4th year of
secondary school at Lycée Bensafi Safi in Sidi Safi, Ain Témouchent
province. Our main objective was to study how speaking could be beneficial
for FLE learning in general, and specifically for oral expression.
To successfully conduct our research, we adopted descriptive and analytical
methods. In this framework, we designed a questionnaire for teachers and
students. We chose to focus on examining the power of motivation, playful
activities, and collective work in encouraging students to express themselves
orally and promoting positive schooling.
The obtained results confirmed our initial hypotheses. They demonstrated that
speaking plays a crucial role in FLE learning, as it allows students to develop
their communicative skills and increase their confidence. Motivation, fueled
by playful and stimulating activities, as well as group work, proved to be key
factors in encouraging students to speak more fluently and spontaneously.
In conclusion, our research underscores the importance of speaking in FLE
learning. Teachers can implement pedagogical strategies that foster

motivation, playful interaction, and collaborative work to create an
environment conducive to students' oral expression. These elements
contribute to a positive schooling experience where students feel valued and
are more inclined to actively engage in their French language learning.
