| dc.description.abstract | MOF-5 and its urea-functionalized composite were synthesized at room temperature using a sonochemical approach and subsequently characterized by various structural and functional techniques. Their antibacterial activity was evaluated using the agar well diffusion test (AWDT) against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 33862 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Hygroscopic properties and Zn2+ ion release kinetics were also investigated. The results showed that urea incorporation preserved the crystalline structure of MOF-5 while enhancing its water-retention capacity and enabling prolonged Zn2+ ion release. Microbiological assays demonstrated significant antibacterial activity for both materials, with superior performance of the MOF-5@CO(NH2)2 composite, particularly against P. aeruginosa (inhibition zone of 23 mm compared to 17 mm for pristine MOF-5). These findings confirm the effectiveness of the sonochemical approach for producing nanostructures with synergistic properties. This study highlights the potential of the MOF-5@CO(NH2)2 composite as a promising material for the development of smart wound dressings with both moisturizing and antibacterial functions, paving the way for future investigations into its biocompatibility and integration into polymeric matrices for biomedical applications. | |
