Étude de l’activité antimicrobienne de trois plantes médicinales de la région d’Aïn Témouchent : Artemisia herba-alba, Thymus coloratus et Jasonia tuberosa

Abstract

The increasing resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics has become a major public health concern, highlighting the need to explore new natural antimicrobial alternatives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Artemisia herba-alba, Thymus coloratus, and Jasonia tuberosa against several bacterial and fungal strains.The essential oils were extracted by hydro distillation. Their antimicrobial activity was assessed using the disk diffusion method (aromatogram), as well as by determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) and the Minimum Bactericidal/Fungicidal Concentrations (MBCs/MFCs).The results showed that the essential oil of Artemisia herba-alba exhibited the strongest antimicrobial activity, followed by Thymus coloratus, whereas Jasonia tuberosa demonstrated weak activity. These findings highlight the promising potential of essential oils, particularly that of Artemisia herba-alba, as a natural source of antimicrobial agents that may contribute to combating microbial resistance.
