Résumé
This study aims to examine modern Algerian poetry through
Mohamed Nasser’s book Modern Algerian Poetry: Its Trends and
Artistic Characteristics 1925–1975. It focuses on the main historical
and cultural factors that contributed to its development, its major
poetic trends and characteristics, as well as its artistic features in terms
of language, style, imagery, structure, and themes. The study adopts
the historical and descriptive-analytical approaches by tracing the
development of Algerian poetry and examining the traditional
conservative trend, the romantic trend, and the new trend, with an
analysis of selected poetic models in light of Mohamed Nasser’s
study. The study concludes that modern Algerian poetry underwent a
gradual development influenced by the historical, cultural, and social
transformations experienced by Algeria, moving from traditional
forms towards greater innovation in language, imagery, structure, and
rhythm while maintaining its national and artistic identity.
