Résumé
The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a play-based therapeutic
program in alleviating attention-deficit/ hyperactivity in children with hearing
impairments, by assessing the program’s impact on modifying the behavior of these
children. A specialized therapeutic program was designed that incorporates
therapeutic play methods adapted to the specific type of disability (hearing
impairment in children. It aims to reduce hyperactivity and increase attention and
concentration levels in this group, The current study adopted a quasi-experimental
design due to its suitability for the nature of the study. Clinical observation, interviews,
and pre- and post-tests were used to measure the children’s behavior from the
perspectives of parents and teachers using the Conners Scale (Laban Hamadi,
2018). The sample included six (6) cases—five girls and one boy—enrolled in a
special school for children with hearing impairments in the province of Ain
Temouchent, with ages ranging from 8 to 13 years. The Raven’s Intelligence Test
was also administered to ensure a homogeneous sample. After implementing the
play-based therapeutic program, a post-test was conducted using the same scale to
evaluate the program’s effectiveness in reducing hyperactivity and inattention in
children with hearing impairments. After a period of implementing the program, we
also administered the same scale in a follow-up assessment to determine whether
the program maintained its effectiveness. The following results were obtained:
- There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the
experimental group on the pre-test and post-test after implementing the therapeutic
program on the Conners Teacher Rating Scale and the Conners Parent Rating Scale.
- There were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the
experimental group on the pre-test and follow-up test after implementing the
intervention program, as measured by the Conners Teacher and Parent Rating
Scales.
This demonstrates that the therapeutic program is effective in reducing hyperactivity
and inattention among children with hearing impairments. Finally, the scientific
contributions of this study were presented, along with recommendations and
suggestions.
