Resume ~ 63 ~ Abstract: This research, entitled “The Treatment of Space in the Novel Onitsha by J. M. G. Le Clézio”, has revealed that the author draws primarily on the African city of Onitsha, which serves as the main setting of the narrative. In comparison with other spaces mentioned — those of memory, nostalgia, violence, or feminine intimacy — Onitsha emerges as the central space, both real and symbolic, and deeply charged with emotions. On the one hand, we conducted both paratextual and textual analyses of the novel in order to highlight the author’s choices, his structuring of the narrative, and the ways in which he guides the reader to better understand the deeper intentions of the work. On the other hand, this study adopts a dual approach — geocritical and mythocritical — to examine the spaces that carry meaning and symbolism within the novelen_US
