Abstract

The study aims to highlight the circular economy as a strategy to achieve sustainable development goals and rationalize resources. To answer the problem posed and the sub-questions, test the study hypotheses, and achieve the study objectives, the study was conducted at the Household Waste and Derivatives Valorization Institution in Ain Temouchent through the design of a questionnaire. The study population included a sample of consumers of plastic products, which numbered 50 individuals. In light of this, the data were collected, analyzed, and the hypotheses were tested using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences SPSS V27. The study reached several conclusions, most notably that the circular economy, with its dimensions (resource efficiency, waste reduction, product lifespan and durability design, reuse and recycling, environmental innovation, and adoption of green technologies), has a statistically significant impact on sustainable development. It also found that 58.8% of the variance in sustainable development stems from the circular economy. Furthermore, the study found no statistically significant differences in respondents' perceptions of the study variables attributable to personal or professional factors. The study recommended strengthening the legal and regulatory framework that supports the transition to a circular economy through the enactment of clear legislation, It encourages recycling, reduces the excessive consumption of natural resources, and provides financial and tax incentives for the private sector, especially startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to adopt sustainable solutions based on recycling, reuse, and eco-design of products.
