Abstract

This studyaims to highlight the role of oral reading and silentreadingstrategies in developingvocabularyamongprimaryschoolpupils, based on the importance of reading in building linguisticcompetence and improvingcomprehension and expression skills. The studyadopted the descriptive-analyticalmethod by presenting and analyzing the concepts related to reading, relying on educationalliterature and the official documents of the Algerian curriculum, in addition to an analyticalstudy of the educationaltext"TodayWe Clean Our House"prescribed for second-yearprimaryschoolpupils. The findingsrevealedthat oral reading and silentreading are complementarystrategies in teachingArabic. Oral readingcontributes to improvingpronunciation, readingfluency, and identifyingreadingdifficulties, whilesilentreadingenhancescomprehension and enricheslearners' vocabularythroughcontextualword acquisition. The studyalsoemphasized the importance of employingappropriatereadingactivities in the classroom to achieve the objectives of the Algerian curriculum and fosterpupils' linguisticcompetence
