Scoliosis is defined as a lateral deviation of the spine associated with rotation of the vertebrae which results in chest deformity. Our objective has mainly focused on the impact of this disease, with its different types, on anthropometric parameters, renal and respiratory function in patients. To do this, we performed a retrospective observational study, which took place at the scoliosis unit of the Dr. Benzerdjeb Hospital in the wilaya of Ain Temouchent. Data concerning the type of scoliosis, sex, age, weight, height, BMI, clinical examination, renal workup and respiratory workup of each patient were collected in a technical sheet. Quantitative variables were represented by means and their standard deviations, and qualitative variables by relative frequencies (%). Our results showed a predominance of secondary scoliosis with a percentage of 62% compared to primary scoliosis (38%). The most suitable surgical treatment for secondary scoliosis is the bipolar assembly. However, the AVP technique represents 70% for the treatment of primary scoliosis. In addition, we noted that surgical correction resulted in a significant increase in standing height in AIS and sitting height in AIS and NMS. We also found in our study that the blood urea level remains within the norms in all types of scoliosis, similarly the creatinine level in patients with primary scoliosis is close to normal while it decreases in patients with secondary scoliosis. Spirometry measurements show that half of the patients have mild to moderate restrictive ventilatory disturbances. From these results it can be inferred that there is no direct effect of scoliosis on the renal function of the patients, however we noted a disturbance of the respiratory system in these patients.en_US
