Résumé
The present study aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of school violence and to
examine its impact on the emergence of psychological and behavioral disorders
among school-going adolescents. The school environment is no longer merely
a space for learning; it has increasingly become a source of psychological
stress, internal conflict, and emotional distress. The study also sought to
explore the underlying psychological conflicts experienced by adolescents
through the use of the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT).
The study adopted a descriptive case-study approach. Data were collected
using the School Violence Scale and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT),
administered to two adolescent students: a 16-year-old female and a 14-year-
old male. The research was based on the general hypothesis that school
violence contributes to the development of psychological and behavioral
disorders among adolescents. Additional sub-hypotheses concerned the high
prevalence of psychological disturbances, the emergence of aggressive and
rebellious behaviors, and the variation in the severity of disorders according to
the degree of exposure to school violence. It was also assumed that TAT
narratives would reveal feelings of rejection, exclusion, and internal
psychological conflicts.
The findings indicated that school violence constitutes a significant
psychosocial stressor and a threat to the adolescent's psychological structure.
Exposure to violence was associated with manifestations of anxiety, fear, and
feelings of insecurity, as well as aggressive and oppositional behaviors.
Furthermore, the TAT narratives revealed underlying intrapsychic conflicts
characterized by feelings of exclusion, rejection, helplessness, and emotional
suffering, reflecting the profound impact of school violence on adolescents'
psychological functioning.
The study also demonstrated that the severity of psychological and behavioral
disorders increases with the level of exposure to school violence, suggesting
that continued victimization contributes to the intensification of psychological
distress. These findings are consistent with previous research highlighting the
relationship between school violence and students' mental health.
Finally, the study emphasizes the importance of strengthening preventive
psychological interventions and early detection strategies within educational
institutions through the provision of psychological support services, the
improvement of the school climate, and the active involvement of families and
school psychologists in reducing school violence and its negative
consequences.
