Résumé

This dissertation presents a numerical study of the integration of phase change materials (PCM) into the cavities of a hollow fired-clay brick, aiming to improve the thermal inertia of buildings in hot climates. The numerical model developed with Ansys-Fluent is based on the enthalpy-porosity method to simulate melting and solidification phenomena. Six configurations were studied by varying the PCM type (capric acid, RT-27, RT-42) and its position relative to air and EPS insulation. Results show that capric acid directly integrated into all brick cavities offers the best thermal performance, with a significant reduction in incoming heat flux and maximum time-lag of the temperature peak. Any intermediate air layer severely degrades efficiency, while the PCM/EPS combination proves superior to EPS/PCM.
