Urinary tract infection remains a real public health problem due to its frequency, cost and potential severity, especially with the emergence of uropathogenic germs resistant or even multiresistant to treatment with antibiotics. Our study aims to determine the resistance level of 29 E. coli strains isolated from adult urinary tract infections at 2 hospitals in Ain Temouchent. The ECBU results show a female predominance of these infections (66.67%), with E. coli being the most commonly encountered germ (54%). The study of the resistance of isolated strains to different antibiotics reveals that they are extremely resistant to betalactamines (100% of the strains are resistant to amoxicillin and ampicillin and 74% for amoxicillin clavulanic acid) making them ineffective against this type of infection. Average resistance was recorded for cotrimoxazole and gentamycin (25.95 and 22% respectively). Ofloxacin, cefotaxime and nitroxoline maintain good activity on isolated strains. Resistance rates were higher in the male sex for some antibiotics. Regarding multi-resistance, the rates are very worrying where 100% of the strains were resistant to at least 2 different antibiotics and more than 33% for at least 4 antibiotics. This can be due to self-medication, the prescribing of antibiotics without the use of antibiotics and the alternation of antibiotics in treatments, without respecting the duration and dose.en_US
