Résumé
This study aims to analyze the use of time in Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There
Were None, focusing on its two main dimensions: chronological time and psychological
time. It seeks to explore the role of time in constructing events, shaping characters, and
enhancing suspense in the detective novel, using the narrative analytical approach to
examine the temporal structure of the text.
The study shows that chronological time in the novel follows a linear and orderly
sequence of events, beginning with the characters’ arrival on the island, then gradually
developing through escalating crimes and growing mystery, until the final revelation of
the truth. This temporal structure contributes to a tightly constructed plot based on
gradual progression and suspense, which is a key feature of detective fiction.
