E. coli is a commensal bacterium in the digestive tract of humans and animals that can become pathogenic and cause many types of fairly serious or even fatal infections if antibiotic therapy remains ineffective. It is against this background that we conducted our study to determine the resistance of E. coli strains in the Ain Témouchent region, where we initially collected a total of 61 isolates, of which 81,97% were in the middle of the and 18,03% in the community environment. These were caused by urinary (59%) and respiratory (41%) infections. They showed a predominance among women (60,60%).Overall antimicrobial resistance results showed quite high levels of antimicrobial resistance to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (62,79%), trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (50%) and piperacillin/tazobactam (46,42%).While they were medium to low for: cefotaxime (26,66%) , fosfomycin (25%) , gentamicin (17,77%) , ceftazidime (16,28%).Hospital bacteria were significantly more resistant than community bacteria to almost all of the antibiotics tested. The same applies to respiratory bacteria compared to those of urinary origin. The frequency of multidrug resistance was alarming, with only 13% of our isolates fully sensitive to the antibiotics tested in our study. 59% of these isolats were resistant to at least 3 different antibiotics at the same time, 21% were resistant to at least 5 different antibiotics and 3,28% were resistant to 8 different antibiotics at the same time.en_US
