Abstract

The subject of our study, titled ""The Problematic of Identity and Belonging,"" is a rich and multifaceted topic that carries numerous social, political, religious, and even humanitarian messages. It invites the reader to deeply contemplate the theme and content of the novel, while encouraging the researcher to carefully examine the interactions and relationships among the characters. This study undertakes an in-depth analysis of the novel Ashes of the East (The Last Autumn in New York), shedding light on the religious dimension of the characters, as well as encompassing the nationalistic aspect, historical context, and the historical figures portrayed in the narrative. The aim of the study is to elucidate how the author, Wassini Al-Araj, depicts the identities of his characters, their steadfastness in preserving these identities, and their affiliation and commitment to their beliefs.
