Abstract

The present study aimed to explore the role played by psychological stress in the emergence of psychosomatic disorders—specifically, chronic kidney failure among adults—at the Beni Saf Hospital, in the hemodialysis department. To achieve the objectives of the study, a case study approach (clinical method) was adopted, relying on clinical observation and various forms of clinical interviews. The study was conducted on a sample consisting of two deliberately selected cases (one male and one female) suffering from chronic kidney failure. The general hypothesis was formulated as follows: Psychological stress plays a role in the development of chronic kidney failure in adults. To verify this hypothesis, we applied the Levenstein Stress Perception Scale and the Cornell Medical Index to assess neurotic traits and psychosomatic disorders. The study led to the following conclusions: Psychological stress plays a significant role in the development of chronic kidney failure in adults. Psychological stress is an important factor in the emergence of kidney failure, regardless of gender, age, marital status, or duration of dialysis treatment. At the end of the study, based on the results obtained, a set of recommendations and suggestions were proposed.
