Abstract
Quebec is one of the few francophone countries not to settle in a situation
of continuous ideological conflict with the French language. Shaken, through history,
by questioning, the French language was able to settle in a Quebec society that linked
its very existence to that of this language, in an environment hostile to its flourishing.
The result is largely linked to the place and role played by Quebec literature, the
dynamism of academic criticism and publishing for half a century now.
