Abstract
The Salvia hispanica plant is an annual herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family, which
has been traditionally used for the treatment of various diseases since ancient times. Salvia
hispanica is endowed with bioactive components that exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and
antimicrobial activities. For this, the objective of this study is to search for antibacterial
properties in the aqueous solution of Salvia hispanica seeds, against the reference strains S.
aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli. The results obtained show the presence of antibacterial
activity in these seeds with an IC50 of 0,49; 0,60 and 0,20 mg/mL and an MIC of 0,26; 1,04 and
0,13mg / mL against, respectively, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli strains. The pH and heat
treatments affected the antibacterial activity of the Salvia hispanica seed solution. Also, the
results showed that the liquid medium is better suited for researching this type of activity than
the solid medium.
