Valorisation des saumures et réduction de la salinité de eaux de la SDEM de Chatt El Hilal (BWC).

Abstract

Increasing populations and insufficient freshwater resources in many countries around the world pose a problem of shortage of drinking water. Desalination of seawater is the appropriate solution to this problem. In addition to the cost per cubic meter and the maintenance of the units of OI, problems may arise for the discharge of brines that are discharged to large and possibly diluted by sea currents. Given the large number of desalination plants in the Mediterranean Sea on one side and its semi-closed nature on the other side, the balance of salinity and therefore aquatic biodiversity is at stake. Our approach is to valorize brine waters by reducing their salinity using the electrolysis method. The results obtained show that it is possible to reduce up to 1213.8 tons / day of salts by producing bleach. Valuing this quantity in any product (table salts, road de-icing salts, ...) is a gain to the national economy and a threat to the underwater ecosystem
