Abstract

This study examines the manifestations of desert space and open places in the novels Kingdom of Ziwan and Kamarad by the novelist Seddik Hadj Ahmed, through a descriptive. The study aims to reveal the functions of narrative space and its semantic and aesthetic dimensions, with a particular focus on desert space as a carrier of identity, memory, and local culture. It also highlights the role of desert environmental elements, such as sand, palm trees, the sun, and oases, in shaping events and characters and in enriching the narrative text with symbolic and existential meanings. The study concludes that desert space in both novels transcends its role as a mere spatial setting to become an active component that contributes to the formation of the narrative vision and reflects the cultural specificity of southern Algeria.
