Abstract
Inula viscosa, is an annual, herbaceous plant. It is widely distributed in the Mediterranean basin,
belongs to the family Asteraceae. The aerial part of this plant considered as the most important
part due to the presence of secondary metabolites that exert several important biological
properties such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and anticancer properties. In
this study the leaves of Inula viscosa were studied for their biological antibacterial, antioxidant
and anti-inflammatory properties. The results obtained showed that silver nanoparticles based
on aqueous extract of Inula viscosa have an anti-radical activity that allows the degradation of
DPPH with an IC50 of 0.1815 mg/ml. These silver nanoparticles have an inhibitory effect on
the hemolysis of red blood cells (presence of anti-inflammatory activity) with a percentage of
hemolysis inhibition of 87%. This effect is comparable to that revealed by Diclofenac (antiinflammatory). These results scientifically validate the traditional use of Inula viscosa as an
anti-inflammatory. Also, the obtained results show that silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have a
84
strong antibacterial activity and the tested bacteria E.coli, S.a 25922, S.a 43300 and P.a A22
are extremely sensitive to the concentration 50 mg/ ml of AgNPs.
