Abstract
Algeria, through its geographical position, offers a great biodiversity of flora, and it is logical
that phytotherapy occupies a primordial place in the lives of Algerians in general and the rural
population in particular. The objective of this study is the evaluation of the antioxidant activity of plant extracts of the Ricinus Communis plant and the comparison between four different stations in western
Algeria (Ain Témouchent, Oran, Tlemcen, Mostaganem). We have chosen the medicinal plant which is castor oil (Ricinus communis L) is a plant of the Euphorbiaceae family, commonly called Kharouaa ; which has been traditionally used in the treatment of many diseases, this plant has beneficial effects such asantioxidant, anti inflammatory, and antibacterial…ect. The results of previous research show that Ricinus communis has a very remarkable anti- oxidant power. The latter was evaluated on extracts from the aerial part of the plant by the
DPPH free radical trapping method. In conclusion, the results presented are based on the evaluation of the antioxidant activity against a single free radical (DPPH). The aqueous extract stands out as the most potent
antioxidant among the extracts examined, followed by the ethanolic and dichloromethane extracts while petroleum ether shows less antioxidant activity. Ricinus Communis extracts, particularly those from the Tlemcen station, present promising antioxidant activity.
