Abstract

Interpretive reading of poetic texts requires awareness and perceptiveness to deconstruct the symbolism and ambiguity embedded within them. In order to uncover the hidden patterns inside a poem, a cultural incident must occur, which is achieved through cultural criticism. This form of criticism explores the intellectual and ideological backgrounds carried by the creator or author, moving beyond the aesthetic beauty of their language and style. Here lies the innovation in the analytical and interpretive approach to poetry, where the reader becomes an active participant in the literary work by uncovering the buried truths within the author's culture and shedding light on the significance of the messages conveyed in the poetry—whether consciously or unconsciously. This is where the danger of cultural patterns lies. The poetry of Najwa Abidat carries a range of such patterns, varying between ideological and realistic , such as the patterns of womanhood, religion, nationalism , and politics , as well as aesthetic and psychological ones like the aesthetic and psychological patterns. This reinforces the idea that cultural criticism complements and accompanies literary criticism , rather than replacing or negating it.
