Most of the current treatments are made with plants, however the intoxications with medicinal plants are far from being negligible. The term nephrotoxicity refers to all functional or structural renal alterations caused by certain drugs or medicinal plants that can damage the kidneys. The present work relates to an ethnobotanical investigation carried out between January 1 and May 31, 2021, it aimed to study the association between the use of medicinal plants and the risk of a nephrotoxicity in patients hospitalized at the level of the service of hemodialysis of the EPH AHMED-MEDEGHRI. One hundred and twenty one patients were recruited of different age and sex, with and without a history of disease, of whom 36 patients were using PM. The results showed that the most represented families were the Lamiaceae and that the leaves were the most used plant organs. The decoction of the latter was the most used method of preparation. Twenty-eight species of medicinal plants have been identified for the treatment of chronic renal failure. The survey revealed that five species were found to be toxic to the kidneys, Rosmarinus officinalis , Olea europaea, Linum usitatissimum, Nigella sativa and Salvia officinalis. This work encourages health professionals to make greater efforts to raise awareness of the dangers associated with the use of these medicinal plants.en_US
