Abstract

The objective of our research, entitled ""The Contribution of the Informal Sector in Job Creation: A Case Study of Small Home- Based Enterprises"", is to highlight the importance and promote the role of small home-based enterprises in creating job opportunities, as an option to mitigate the effects of unemployment. We adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, and used interviews as the main data collection tool. Our study concluded that the informal sector has a societal capacity to absorb unemployment by providing job opportunities outside the formal labor market. This is due to the emergence of small home-based enterprises, which represent a flexible social model and an innovative community response. These enterprises contribute to social cohesion and promote economic and social stability.
