Résumé
This dissertation addresses the legal status of the ship agent in Algerian legislation and
examines the legal aspects related to his position as a representative of the shipowner or ship
operator before administrative authorities and maritime operators within ports. The Algerian
legislator defines the ship agent as the person responsible for carrying out maritime and
administrative procedures related to the vessel and cargo, acting on behalf of the ship operator
within a legal agency relationship. The ship agent is entrusted with several legal and
professional responsibilities, including representing the principal, supervising loading and
unloading operations, and ensuring the proper conduct of maritime activities within the port.
This study aims to highlight the legal status of the ship agent, explain his rights, obligations,
and legal liability under Algerian maritime law, and emphasize his important role in
facilitating maritime transport operations and ensuring stability in maritime transactions
