Diet influences the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including traditional and emerging risk factors. Cardiovascular risk combines morphological, physiological and biochemical abnormalities that evolve over time, predisposing the affected individual to atherosclerosis and its complications. A less favorable lipid profile evolving towards an atherogenic type characterized by a reduction in HDL-C, an increase in LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C), an alteration in carbohydrate metabolism favoring the installation of insulin resistance, inflammation and oxidative stress leading to the onset of a metabolic syndrome. The increase in the prevalence of metabolic syndrome is related to a poor lifestyle and predisposes them to cardiovascular disease. The practice of regular physical activity and the adoption of a healthy diet are essential to prevent obesity and diabetes and reduce the cardiovascular risk caused by the metabolic syndrome.en_US
