Abstract
Our study consists of studying the effectiveness of chitosan and ball-shaped chitosan as a coagulant flocculating agent in the treatment of waste water based on dyes. For this, two chitosans from the same
source (provided by Sigma Aldrich) and with different characteristics (degree of deacetylation, viscosity and
molecular weight) were used. The first is commercial. The second was prepared in the laboratory by an
alkaline treatment to make it in ball form. The adsorbance was evaluated by measuring the residual
adsorbance capacity for various parameters, namely, time, the concentration of dyes, the dose of chitosan
and the pH of the solution.the performance of the prepared chitosan was compared to that using a
commercial polymer. The results are in favor of chitosan in ball form
