Abstract
The Algerian primary schools are among those who do not offer opportunity to their pupils to
introduce for them English course from the very first year of the acquisition of l2 though young learners will
need the language of science and technology due to its status; as well it will open the door for many
opportunities in their future professional career. Therefore, the current study attempt to examine if the
English language will take place in the Algerian primary schools instead of French, due to their great status as
it provides necessary information about the importance of learning English in an early age. Furthermore, it
looks to find out the appropriate methodology for the young beginners, which would be helpful in designing
suitable activities to children. Many researches in the field of teaching and learning languages at an early age
agree on the fact that learning foreign language is easier than learning it in an older age, that’s why it is
essential for children to learn English language because it is a global language spoken in many countries so it
is important to introduce it primary schools. For this reason, primary third-Grade pupils are chosen as the
most suitable target study first, since, they are the first who are concerned with the teaching of the first
foreign language and a descriptive method has been used to confirm the evidence of the hypothesis through
Two questionnaires were administred to both pupils and teachers in order to gather data about their
attitudes towards introducing English course in general and their learning outcome in particular . Most of
findings show that the majority of pupils show positive attitudes to learn English language. Finally, from the
results of the obtained study recommendations are suggested for an effective foreign language teaching to
young learners
