Abstract
High-performance cooling is an essential requirement for modern microprocessors that
generate large amounts of non-uniform heat distribution. Heat sinks have traditionally been
used for thermal management. In this study, the effects of certain design parameters on the
performance of the flat plate heat sink were analyzed. Heat transfer simulations were performed
using ABAQUS finite element analysis software to understand the variation in heat flux and
temperature of the heat sink. Three parameters were varied: the number of fins, the heat flux
and the material of the heat sink, and a comparison of the heat flux distribution and temperature
between the full-finned, Rectangular and perforated heat sink was made. In the end, the results
were discussed.
