Abstract
Economic indicators have a significant impact on the profitability of commercial banks. Banks benefit from increased demand for loans and banking services, which enhances their revenues and profitability. This study aims to test the relationship between economic indicators represented by geopolitical risk (GPR), gross domestic product (GDP), and the dollar index (DYX) on the profitability of commercial banks represented by profitability indicators such as return on assets (ROA and return on equity (ROE). Financial statements were relied upon to extract annual data for three selected countries: Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates during the period from 2005 to 2023. Using the Panel ARDL test, the study concluded the existence of positive relationships between geopolitical risks (GPR) and return on assets and return on equity, as well as significant positive coefficients for both the dollar index (DYX) and gross domestic product (GDP) concerning return on assets and return on equity, indicating their positive long-term association with financial performance as confirmed by the integration coefficient.
