Abstract
Nanostructural metal particles in the form of quantum dots have attracted the
interest of many scientists, in recent years due to their unique properties attributed to
quantum confinement or surface effects, which underlie their future applications in
catalysis as well as in miniaturized electronic and optical devices.
Hexagonal MCM-41 mesoporous silica is one of the commonly used hosts for the
incorporation of silver nanoparticles, which provide pore channels and are suitable for the
confinement of ultrathin metal nanostructures in its channels.
Ag nanoparticles were confined inside the pore channels of MCM-41 by the
biologicalin situ reduction method. XRD and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy were used to
characterizethe MCM41-AgNPs composites.
These MCM41-AgNPs catalysts showed excellent catalytic activity to remove the
dyecompared to its absence in the reaction medium, the position of the plasmon band is
between650 and 675 nm
