Abstract

"The digital environment refers to the virtual space where interactions occur through modern technological means, including the internet, social media platforms, and various digital applications. This environment is characterized by its intangible nature, openness, and constant evolution, making it an integral part of daily life—especially for children, who are among the most frequent users for learning, communication, and entertainment. This early interaction of children with the digital space reveals legal and civil challenges stemming from its unique nature, which differs significantly from the physical world in terms of the speed of dissemination, difficulty of control, and the diversity of content sources. The digital environment introduces new types of risks—behavioral, communicative, and contractual—that directly affect children and require a different understanding of the relationship between the child and the digital medium. Civil protection in this context goes beyond post-damage compensation. It includes preventive dimensions related to the role of the family and the awareness of individuals and institutions regarding the challenges that technology poses to a legally incomplete group. Moreover, the digital space highlights the need for more precise legal tools to understand the nature of digital harm, determine responsibility, and analyze the contexts in which these risks emerge. These facts show that civil protection of children in the digital environment is subject to a renewed conceptual and social framework, necessitating a reevaluation of many traditional notions. This must consider the specificities of the childhood stage and its interaction with an open space that transcends classical boundaries of responsibility and oversight. "
