dc.description.abstract" The penalty of community service is one of the most prominent modern alternatives to custodial sentences. It aims to reform and rehabilitate the convict and enable them to reintegrate into society. This penalty requires the convict to perform beneficial work for the community, without financial compensation, for the benefit of a legal entity under public law or for an association recognized as having a public interest or benefit. This is instead of imprisonment, which could have negative repercussions for both the offender and the penal institution itself. The Algerian legislator drew inspiration from some comparative legislation and incorporated this mechanism into the penal legal system in 2009 as an alternative to short-term imprisonment. Some of its provisions were subsequently amended in Law 24-06, amending and supplementing the Penal Code. This study aims to highlight the various aspects of this penalty by examining its concept, characteristics, and application requirements. It then addresses the sentencing procedures and implementation methods in Algeria"en_US
